Continuing Legal Education for Lawyers & Training for Nonprofit Leaders

Tuesday, May 19
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Presented by Cheshire Law Group

Nonprofit board service offers attorneys a powerful way to lead in their communities — but it also presents distinct legal and ethical challenges. This focused, half-day summit is designed for professionals who currently serve, or are considering serving, on nonprofit boards and want a deeper understanding of the risks and responsibilities involved.

The program includes two substantive sessions covering fiduciary duties, governance structure, state and federal compliance requirements, UBIT, employee classification issues, affiliation agreements, grantmaking compliance, and international considerations such as OFAC regulations. A dedicated ethics hour will examine the complex professional responsibility questions unique to attorneys on boards, including when legal advice begins, confidentiality and privilege concerns, conflicts of interest, documentation practices, and malpractice coverage.

The summit concludes with an optional lunch, moderated discussion and peer Q&A.

Attendees will earn 3 CLE credits (2 Substantive, 1 Ethics).
